Potrero Digital opens registration for the second 2020 quarter

“Although the beginning of the year posed challenges for all organizations, at Potrero Digital, we were able to go 100% digital in less than two weeks, right when the 2020 enrollment took off. This sparked interest in many people who wanted to find out more about us,” says Carolina Biquard, executive director of Compromiso Foundation, one of Potrero’s three founding organizations, together with La Juanita Cooperative and Mundo Loco. “We exceeded our expectations: almost 90% of 2020 students are new. We’re really excited about this. It compels us to find new ways of reaching out to more people, trusting in what we’re convinced each one of them can achieve,” adds Biquard.

Potrero Digital, from territory to home

It was created as a network of digital trade schools so that people from deprived neighborhoods over the age of 16 could receive training and land their first job experience. The current situation forced this initiative, the only one of its kind in the world, to shift from in-person classes to 100% online. The objective remains intact: that an increasing number of young people prepare themselves for the future workplace. A future that, in pandemic times, seems to have arrived earlier than expected.

Digital Trades

“Argentina has a digital skills shortage that prevents tens of thousands of young people from joining the workforce. Paradoxically, the generation of digital natives cannot take advantage of the market demand for technology services and the exponential growth of digital transformation. Profiting from these job opportunities does not necessarily require a university degree but appropriate technical training. Potrero Digital is a network of digital trade schools, totally free of charge, that operates in social organizations located in socially and economically vulnerable communities. It focuses on social integration by providing knowledge and opportunities to find employment, joining forces with businesses that need technology services. Consequently, Potrero Digital paves the way today for all schools in the future.”
